Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset – THE Grand Pier in Weston-super-Mare is to host a new comedy club in the resort.

Weston Comedy Grove will bring the very best in live stand-up comedy from around the country, with five comedians in one show.

The debut show takes place on October 24, and will include performances from Joanna Neary, James Dowdeswell, and headliner, Stephen Carlin.

Stephen has earned critical acclaim and accolades and is well on his way to become Scotland’s newest addition to its history of brilliant comedians.

He is an enigmatic act, using a unique pattern of delivery to amuse the audience with unexpected and off the wall references, along with an in-depth and hilarious knowledge of International snooker.

Joanna Neary is an accomplished performer with considerable experience in television comedy having stared in That Mitchell and Webb Look (BBC Two) and as Judith in Ideal (BBC Three) with Johnny Vegas.

She recently filmed Gamarjobat, a pilot for Babycow, and the third series of Skins (Channel 4/E4).

Further credits include Time Trumpet (BBC2) Katy Brand’s Big Ass Show (ITV2), Angelo’s (Five) Comedy Cuts II and III and No Heroics (ITV2).

She took her debut solo show Joanna Neary is Not Feeling Herself to the Edinburgh Fringe in 2004, where she received rave reviews, a Perrier Best Newcomer nomination and won Fringe Report’s Award for Best Actor - Theatrical Comedy.

James Dowdeswell is an imaginative storytelling comedian who combines deft stand-up with daft stories.

He has appeared on Russell Howard’s Good News (BBC), Celebrity Deal Or No Deal with Jimmy Carr (C4), Olympics Greatest Moments (BBC) and Jongleurs Live (Loaded TV).

Other TV credits include Ricky Gervais’ Extras, The World Stands Up and Edinburgh And Beyond on the Paramount Comedy Channel.

He is currently filming his own comedy show about wine called “James Dowdeswell – Black Belt in Wine.”

Paul Charalambous, Grand Pier General Manager, said: "We are delighted to welcome such talented acts from the world of comedy to the Grand Pier.

“We are certain our pavilion will be bursting at the seams with laughter, and hope Weston Comedy Grove becomes a firm hit.”
