As a female-led business, C & D South West Ltd is proud to celebrate the growing representation of women in the transport and logistics industry.
With the average age of drivers in the sector being 57 and a historically male-dominated landscape, C & D are keen to break stereotypes and create an environment that welcomes all genders.
A recent inspiring story comes from one of C & D’s Class 2 drivers, Shane Smith, who is approaching his 10-year milestone with the company. Now, his daughter, Holly Smith, is following in his footsteps and joining C & D as a HGV driver herself.
Holly first joined the team for work experience and later took on a part-time office role, inspired by the company’s welcoming environment. Now, she's achieved her goal of becoming an HGV driver, working alongside her father and continuing a family tradition at C & D.
Managing Director Lorna and HR & Finance Manager Cayla also followed in their fathers’ footsteps, each bringing their own unique strengths to C & D South West. Both are advocates for increasing female representation in the sector and are dedicated to creating opportunities that support women entering this traditionally male-dominated industry.
Lorna stated,
“It’s fantastic to see more women showing interest in becoming HGV drivers. We believe that diversity strengthens our team and brings fresh perspectives to the industry.”
Cayla added,
“As leaders, we’re committed to creating opportunities for women in transport”.
Holly Smith added:
“My dad has been with C & D South West Ltd for a long time, and it’s a fantastic place to work. It’s encouraging to see more women entering transport and logistics, and I’m excited to see what the future holds.”
By sharing stories like this father-daughter duo, C & D aims to encourage others to rethink traditional roles in transport and show that they can be rewarding careers for everyone.
