Annual business dinner raises more than £4,000 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity’s Star Appeal
As lead sponsor of the CBI West Midlands Annual Dinner last month, Deloitte was able to raise more than £4,000 for its 2016 charity partner, Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity. The money, donated by the 360 business men and women who attended, will go to the hospital’s Star Appeal which will create the first children’s rare diseases centre in the UK.
Fiona Reynolds, Chief Medical Officer at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, who addressed the audience at the International Convention Centre, commented: “We are extremely grateful to the Midlands business community for its continued support and to Deloitte for giving us the chance not just to fundraise but also to share with people exactly what the new centre will mean for those children and their families living with a rare or undiagnosed condition.”
The Star Appeal, which has an overall target of £3.65 million, will create a first of a kind centre that will provide co-ordinated care, treatment and support that will brighten the lives of patients and their families.
Reynolds continued: “In addition to significantly reducing the amount of time families spend travelling to and from, and then inside the hospital itself, they will also have the chance to meet others going through similar challenges. We treat over 9,000 children a year for more than 500 rare diseases so these connections are so important.”
Pauline Biddle, Practice Senior Partner for Deloitte in the Midlands, said: “There is a remarkable generosity of spirit here in the Midlands, and this to me is yet another example of people recognising, then wholeheartedly supporting, an organisation which will have a lasting impact - not just locally but across the UK. I’m delighted we were able to help in some way.”
The 700-strong Birmingham office of Deloitte, which nominates and then votes for its local charity partner, is aiming to undertake eight fundraising challenges in 2016 for its current partner, Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity.
