An emotional summer appeal from Acorns Children’s Hospice which will see hundreds of beautiful heart-shaped keepsakes go on public display is being sponsored by award-winning legal firm Talbots Law.
Hannah’s Hearts Appeal, named after 17-year-old Hannah Debney, invites supporters to dedicate a metal white heart in memory of someone special and make a donation towards Acorns vital care for seriously ill children.
Talbots Law, a full-service law firm with offices across the Midlands, says it is ‘proud’ to sponsor the appeal which will culminate with all the hearts forming a stunning public display in September.
Dave Hodgetts, Chief Executive of Talbots Law, said:
“We’re proud to sponsor Hannah’s Hearts Appeal and support the important work Acorns does across our region. We have visited the charity’s hospices and seen for ourselves the impact of their care for children and families. So, when the opportunity arose to once again lend our support to Acorns by sponsoring their summer appeal, we said yes immediately.
“Hannah’s story is a powerful example of how Acorns supports families facing the heartbreaking loss of a child and helps them make every moment they have together count. Everyone should get behind Acorns and Hannah’s Hearts Appeal so they can help even more families in need.”
Hannah Hearts Appeal invites loved ones, friends and Acorns supporters to remember someone special by dedicating a beautiful, limited-edition white heart in their memory for a suggested donation of £30.
Each heart dedicated will be displayed in a Garden of Everlasting Love along with personal messages in a beautiful installation at Arley Arboretum on Saturday, 14 September before being carefully packaged for supporters to take home.
Acorns Summer appeal has been inspired by a precious heart keepsake created by Hannah who had made the brave decision to come to Acorns for end of life care after contracting fatal sepsis following a long and complex battle with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. She spent her final 15 days at the charity’s hospice in the Black Country before she sadly died in July 2023.
Christina White, Head of Public Income at Acorns, said:
“Hannah’s Hearts Appeal creates a lasting legacy for brave Hannah Debney, not only by transforming a symbol which meant so much to her and her family into a precious keepsake for all our supporters, but because each dedication and donation made will enable us to continue vital care for children and families now and long into the future.
“We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has already chosen to remember a loved one by supporting our summer appeal and special thanks go to Talbots Law who are continuing their support for Acorns by sponsoring Hannah’s Heart Appeal.
“It is only with the generous support of our community and local businesses like Talbots Law that we can continue to be there for children and families during the darkest of times.”
Acorns Children’s Hospice provides specialist palliative care for babies, children and young people with life limiting and life threatening conditions, and support for their families.
In the past year, the charity has cared for more than 750 children across the West Midlands, and supported almost 1,000 families, including those who are bereaved.
This care and support is provided from Acorns three hospices, based in Birmingham, Walsall and Worcester, and in the community.
Acorns needs around £30,000 each day to provide its children’s hospice care, with two-thirds of that amount coming from generous donations and fundraising by the local community.
Help for children and families in desperate need can’t wait.
