Heart of Worcestershire (HoW) College is proud to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week (February 10th-16th) by showcasing the achievements of its apprentices, and highlighting the opportunities that apprenticeships provide to develop individuals’ essential skills while earning and learning.
At HoW College, apprenticeships are a key part of the educational offering, with the college committed to providing high-quality training and support to help students succeed in their chosen careers.
Mo Horan, Vice Principal Apprenticeships, Partnerships & Skills at HoW College, said:
"Apprenticeships are a fantastic way for individuals to gain practical experience while building their knowledge and skills. At HoW College, we are proud to work with a range of employers to support our apprentices in achieving their career aspirations.
“National Apprenticeship Week is a great opportunity to celebrate their hard work and dedication, and to encourage others to consider apprenticeships as a pathway to a rewarding future. It also serves as an important reminder of the important role apprenticeships play in shaping the future workforce and supporting economic growth.”
HoW College’s apprenticeship success stories include:
Hannah Randall - Level 3 Motor Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician
Hannah chose an apprenticeship over traditional study to gain hands-on experience and practical skills. Her role involves oil services, inspections, tyre fitting, and the replacement of key vehicle components. Hannah has applied skills learned at HoW College to restore her own 1966 Series 2a Land Rover, and encourages others to consider apprenticeships for skill development and independence.
Molly Lloyd - Level 3 Mechanical Engineering
Molly, the only female on the shop floor where she works, takes pride in her role, inspired by her family’s engineering background. She enjoys building pharmaceutical packaging machines and values the practical skills gained through her apprenticeship. Molly encourages others to research career opportunities and consider apprenticeships as a pathway to success.
Hannah Davies - Level 3 Mechanical Engineering
Hannah has aspired to work in aerospace since attending an airshow with her mum years ago. Driven by her practical nature, the apprenticeship is giving her real world experience within a class-leading manufacturer of precision fabricated and machined parts for the aerospace industry. Hannah’s advice to others about doing an apprenticeship is, “Don’t doubt yourself - just go for it.”
Lauren Powell - Level 3 Business Administration
Lauren transitioned from traditional education to an apprenticeship to gain hands-on experience while studying. Her responsibilities included managing tenders, marketing, and corporate event planning. Lauren spearheaded a successful sustainability initiative at her company and was offered a full-time role upon completing her apprenticeship.
Mariah Sutton - Level 3 Business Administration
Mariah pursued an apprenticeship to rebuild her career post-pandemic. Supporting HR and recruitment needs, she has gained invaluable professional and personal skills. Her proudest achievement is passing her maths qualification, a milestone she previously thought was beyond her reach.
HoW College is dedicated to supporting apprentices through excellent mentoring, strong industry partnerships, and a commitment to student success. To find out more about HoW College, visit https://www.howcollege.ac.uk/
