Newbury College and Educafe collaborate to extend learning opportunities for the community

Newbury College and
Educafe, aCommunity Interest Company (CIC), are offering a new range of courses from November to provide additional support to non-native speakers within the community. The new collaboration underscores both organisations' commitment to educational excellence and community empowerment, particularly for those new to the area or country.

The new courses are designed to provide comprehensive language support, ensuring that individuals from diverse backgrounds can thrive both academically and socially. The partnership reflects a shared vision between Newbury College and Educafe of local collaboration to create inclusive educational opportunities that support personal and professional growth.

Educafe’s weekly community cafe at Newbury Library has seen hundreds of English Learners blossom thanks to its drop-in English conversation sessions, affectionately known as ‘Chatty Corner’. This friendly but purposeful approach acts as a springboard to further education, training, or employment.

Clare Middleton, Director of Educafe, commented:

“Many of Educafe’s learners are trying to improve their language skills to secureemployment and build a life here in West Berkshire. Being welcomed to Newbury College will help reinforce they are part of our community and boost their confidence.”

tilising the excellent facilities at Newbury College alongside an in-depth understanding of the region’s skills needs, the partnership will strengthen community connection with education and skills,forming a wider educational hub for the community.

Dr Jo Houghton, Vice Principal HE and Skills at Newbury College,said:

November and will include:

- Job Support Club – English for Work
- Business Communications
- Life in the UK: Living in the Community
