A programme of renovations is taking place at Fairfield School, Backwell this summer, including an all new purpose-built playground for the Reception class.

Children at Fairfield School, the independent day school and nursery in Backwell, will return after the holidays to find a refurbished school with some extra special additions.

The newly relocated Reception classroom is having its windows removed and new double doors fitted which will lead out on to the new age-specific playground.

With a soft surface and a racetrack feature for children to run along, the new playground has been specially designed to appeal to four and five-year-olds. The outdoor space will also boast numbers and letters on the ground so children can continue their learning outside.

As part of the re-jig of classrooms the IT Suite will be removed and instead classrooms will be equipped with state-of-the-art Chromebooks and iPads, which have been purchased by the PTA.

Fairfield School Headmistress, Lesley Barton, said:

“We are delighted to be renovating the school over the holidays and I know the children are already so excited to come back and see the changes.

“The new Reception playground will be a particular highlight especially because the classroom opens directly on to it, which will really encourage a free-flow learning experience.

“We have also created a new pedestrian access called the ‘Yellow Brick Road’ which will lead children and parents safely to our Early Years Building which houses Nursery and Lambs.

“We are constantly developing the school and thinking of ways to improve our learning environment. We hope everyone loves the improvements and thank you to the PTA for their hard work in raising funds.”

Fairfield School is an independent co-educational school for children aged 2 to 11. Class sizes are limited to a maximum of 20 at Fairfield School, with many much smaller. There is a very wide range of clubs and activities, sport, music and drama to excite the interest of pupils.
