The University of Bolton has achieved its record student satisfaction rating of 85% following the results of The National Student Survey (NSS) 2017.

The survey, which consists of 27 questions relating to eight aspects of the learning experience, is primarily aimed at final-year undergraduate students, gathering opinions on their courses and time at university. The survey was completed by seven out of ten final-year undergraduates in 2016^*. The results of the survey help inform prospective students when making their choices while assisting institutions in enhancing the student experience.

This year’s survey has seen the university achieve multiple successes, ranking in the top five for student satisfaction in the North West as well as becoming the number one institution for student satisfaction in Greater Manchester and number one nationally across its Accountancy and English Studies courses. The university’s Business and Civil Engineering courses were also ranked as number one in the North West with its Nursing and Building courses ranking in the top three. Media Studies and Psychology were also ranked as number one in Greater Manchester.

Over the past 12 months, the university has also been recognised by The Complete University Guide for its student satisfaction, ranking in the top 27% of 129 higher education institutions. Other recent accolades include silver status in the government’s new Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) evaluation scheme of university teaching, recognising universities for exceeding the baseline threshold expected of UK higher education. The university also ranked 38 out of 128 institutions for teaching quality in The Sunday Times; and entered The Guardian’s top 40 for teaching quality.

These achievements bring to the forefront the University of Bolton’s commitment to its policy of being a Teaching Intensive, Research Informed (TIRI) institution, one that continually strives to enhance and enrich the student experience.

The University of Bolton’s investment and commitment in the development of the university, its students and town continues with the new £13 million National Centre for Motorsport Engineering welcoming its first intake of students this autumn. The Institute of Management at Bolton Central and its merger with Bolton College are also set to be completed within the next 12 months.
