Megan Berry, Trainee Solicitor at Foot Anstey LLP has been awarded the Sir George Fowler Award by the Devon and Somerset Law Society (DASLS) in recognition of scoring the highest mark in the Legal Practice Course (LPC) achieved at any institution in the South West by someone undertaking a training contract in Devon or Somerset.
Megan, who recorded 90% in her LPC from The University of Law, Exeter Campus, in May 2022, received her award from Paul Kelly, DASLS president, as well as a £200 prize. Megan has been a trainee at Foot Anstey since September 2021 and has completed three (Employment, Corporate and Projects, Infrastructure and Construction) seats so far.
When asked about the award, she commented:
"I think a key to winning the award was securing a training contract with Foot Anstey and using its extensive support network to help bolster my studies. During my time on the LPC, I used the firm's mentoring scheme which paired me with Emma Clayton a Senior Associate at the firm. This support was useful as it allowed me to ask questions related to the LPC but also application related questions, which enabled me to dedicate time to study." "When I was informed about winning the award, I was shocked but overall, I felt an overwhelming sense of pride. I am a first-generation University student with no link into the law sector whatsoever. I was told that I would not thrive at University or in my career, so it was a moment of validation, and a recognition that I have worked hard and deserve to be where I am today. Also, it was good to take a step back and see how much I had achieved over the last few years. I cannot thank my tutors at the University of Law and Emma Clayton at Foot Anstey enough for supporting me throughout."
