Birmingham Born England Rugby and Olympic Star Heather Fisher Reveals How She Deals With Alopecia With The Help of Active Clinic
Female sporting icon Heather Fisher has represented England in a number of Rugby World Cups, Olympics, Commonwealth Games and was part of England's World Cup winning team in 2014 - That same year the team won the BBC Sports Personality of the year award for "Team of the Year".
Heather’s sporting achievements and her road to greatness has been gruelling due to suffering with Alopecia and picking up several injuries along the way. Knowing the importance of recovery and maintaining a positive approach to life Heather began regular Cryotherapy and Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber treatments at Active Clinic in Edgbaston.
In a hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber, the air pressure is increased two to three times higher than normal air pressure. Under these conditions, your lungs can gather much more oxygen than would be possible breathing pure oxygen at normal air pressure. Cryotherapy is an extreme cold treatment which is based on temperature between -120°C and -160°C. The standard treatment period of a maximum of 3 minutes in duration - This triggers a physiological response in the body and is know to be used by many sports stars to boost their recovery.
Heather Fisher Comments:
“Living with Alopecia is incredibly hard and extremely stressful. The treatments I have been receiving at Active Clinic since 2018 have been helping me to manage my stress and maintain a good state of mental health. The team at Active Clinic have never made me feel uncomfortable and I never feel judged there. Once, I even travelled from my training camp in London to Birmingham and back again, just for a treatment. Recovery is so important for us all, not just sports stars.”
Tammy Takkar Co-Director at Active Clinic comments:
It’s been such an honour and pleasure treating Heather the past 4 years. Her story is incredible and she’s a true inspiration to all those suffering with Alopecia, all women and all sports stars.”
