Swiftclean Academy, the industry training facility provided by Legionella and ductwork risk experts Swiftclean, has added to its training portfolio with two new online courses: Legionella Control for Responsible Persons Training Level 3, and Legionella Awareness Level 2: Hot and Cold Water Systems, both of which are accredited by Highfield Qualifications.
Swiftclean’s in-house training team has successfully delivered its first online courses in June 2024, with further dates available for Level 3 in August and October, while the Level 2 course has places available in September. Designed to equip and enable Duty Holders, Responsible or Deputy Responsible Persons, as well as day to day managers, the courses are easy to relate specifically to the control of Legionella on candidates’ sites. These courses provide a wealth of information about Legionella, and how to maintain clean water systems to prevent outbreaks of Legionellosis.
Swiftclean Training Manager Richard Crews commented,
“At Swiftclean, we have been providing some basic training in Legionella prevention for our clients for a number of years, so it is very pleasing to be able now to offer a formal Level 3 accredited course for Responsible Persons. We anticipate high demand for this course as building owners and managers become more aware of the need for vigilance in this critical area of compliance in building management. However, on many sites, Legionella control is too important an issue to be left to a single person, so it is essential that those who have day to day management of water systems are also aware of the basic principles of Legionella prevention. The Level 2 course is specifically designed to equip and enable them to help keep water systems healthy, and we are similarly, very pleased to be able to offer this.”
The Legionella Control for Responsible Persons Training Level 3 course covers the main principles of Legionella awareness, control and prevention, and includes the following elements:
- Legionellosis – background – medical aspects
- Legal implications
- ACOP and guidance on the control of legionella in water systems
- Implementation of the written scheme
- Water sampling and necessary actions
- Ensuring competency of staff, consultants and contractors
- Water systems disinfection requirements
- Management of log book records
The Legionella Awareness Level 2: Hot and Cold Water Systems – training course is designed for those who are responsible for the day to day management of legionella control and for maintaining on site logbooks, and covers:
- The health risks associated with Legionella bacteria and Legionnaire’s Disease
- The control measures to prevent the disease, including the process of risk management, the importance of competent staff and a formal review
- How legislation and codes of practice can support the management of legionella bacteria
- Consequences of not complying with relevant legislations and codes of practice
- The key roles and responsibilities associated with the management of legionella bacteria
