Specialist business property adviser, Christie & Co has completed on the sale of St Andrews Town Hotel, situated on the edge of Droitwich Spa in Worcestershire, to an experienced operator.
Situated on 1.6 acres, St Andrews Town Hotel occupies an elegant two storey Georgian building, constructed in 1820 originally as the home of the Town Clerk of Droitwich Spa. 31 contemporary en suite letting rooms are situated across the ground, first and second floors, all fitted to an extremely high standard. Several extensions have been added to the original building, including an orangery which can accommodate for 150 covers, providing the ideal setting for weddings, private events and celebrations. Externally, a beautiful large garden features a paved terrace with tables and chairs, surrounded by trees and gardens.
The hotel sits just half a mile south of the town centre of Droitwich, which offers excellent walking paths along the canals and is conveniently located to explore the bustling cities of Worcester and Birmingham, and the Cotswolds.
Previous owner, Aidan Stevens acquired St Andrews Town Hotel through Christie & Co in July 2012 and has taken the decision to sell in order to focus on an exciting spa development at his other hotel, Stratton House Hotel, situated in Cirencester, Gloucestershire. Mr Stevens comments,
“St Andrews will always have a special place in our hearts, but we are very excited about our plans for the next 18 months.”
New owner, Khurshid Anwar is an experienced operator, having owned Ely House Hotel in Wolverhampton for 15 years. Mr Anwar plans to operate both businesses and further expand his portfolio in the future. He comments,
“I am extremely excited about becoming the new owner of such a historical hotel. My congratulations to previous owner for his achievements. I am looking forward to taking the hotel to the next stage to becoming a first choice destination for our guests visiting the area either for business or pleasure.”
Charles Jones, Senior Business Agent at Christie & Co handled the sale and comments,
“I am delighted to announce the sale of St Andrews Town Hotel. I wish Khurshid all the best in his new venture, and I wish Aidan the best of luck with his plans for the Stratton House Hotel. “The hotels market in the region continues to buzz with activity, both in terms of the number of opportunities available and the volume of interested buyers, ranging from overseas investors, owner-operators and corporate buyers. In a similar vein, the positive growth in appetite across the funding market demonstrates the strength of the sector, particularly for experienced operators and well-located hotels.”
St Andrews Town Hotel was sold off a guide price of £1,550,000 for the freehold interest.
