Leading Birmingham-based engineering firm, adi Group, was shortlisted at The Business Desk’s Business of the Year Awards 2025, earning a spot in both the Community Impact and Employer of the Year shortlists.
The awards recognise the very best businesses from across the North West, the West Midlands, Yorkshire and the South West - a real celebration of excellence, innovation and disruption.
Commenting on the outstanding achievement, Alan Lusty, CEO, says:
“We are thrilled to see that our efforts to invest in the wellbeing and development of our employees, as well as to give back to our local community, have been recognised with such a prestigious award.
“Both categories celebrate areas that are and have always been of particular importance to our business, and we are proud to have been shortlisted.”
The Employer of the Year award recognises the organisations that excel for their workforce through investment in skills and training, workplace wellbeing initiatives, support for groups and individuals and more.
adi's commitment to its workforce starts with improving accessibility to the industry through unique vocational opportunities thanks to its unique pre-apprenticeship programme, which it pioneered in 2016, as well as its award-winning apprenticeships.
Having been recognised by The 5% Club as a Gold award winner, the firm pledged to achieve 5% of its workforce in apprenticeship positions, a goal it repeatedly exceeded in the past few years, having reached the 10% milestone in 2023.
adi Group is making great strides in enhancing workplace wellbeing with its Responsible Business Committee, its Apprentice Mentoring Scheme, an inclusive benefits portal and an internal feedback programme for employees, as well as by offering all employees a dedicated volunteering day each year.
In 2023, the company achieved an incredible number four ranking in Best Companies’ 2023 list of construction and engineering companies across the UK, as well as earning #86 within the UK’s 100 Best Large Companies to Work For, being recognised for being the very best in workplace engagement.
But the Group’s positive impact also extends externally, allowing the business to be shortlisted for the Community Impact award, which identifies those that demonstrate a commitment to ‘giving something back’ to their region through CSR initiatives or charitable activities.
Having built a trailblazing responsible business strategy that led to raising £107,000 across a range of charities in 2023, adi participates in a number of local fundraising events as well as organising its own.
adi selected Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity as its new charity of the year in 2023, and offers it continuous support by taking part in an array of fundraising opportunities to help children in care and their families. In October 2024, the business was recognised for raising over £100,000 for the hospital since it started its partnership with them.
And the business also provides 360-degree support to the hospital, such as through electrical remedial works, site clean-up, planting trees, delivering Christmas presents to children in care, as well as purchasing essential pieces of equipment.
The Group is striving to do even more this year, raising its fundraising targets and getting even more of its employees involved in supporting its progressive responsible business strategy.
