Timber business, UK Hardwoods, has invested in a new thermal modification plant. Situated in Devon, it’s currently the largest of its kind in the UK.
The £300,000 investment has been built onsite and will allow the business to expand its product offering, with its new range of thermally modified external cladding.
The external cladding is heated to extremely high temperatures in a vacuum in a process that modifies the timber’s characteristics to increase its durability, resistance to decay, rot and insect damage. It also enhances product performance, ensuring a 60-year lifecycle.
The process is also sustainable, aligning with the company’s core values. The plant is the UK’s most energy-efficient thermal modification plant, the process is completely chemical-free and the timber used is fully traceable; carefully selected from certified British woodland.
Polly Bedford, director of UK Hardwoods, said,
“This investment has been a dream for a long time. There is already huge demand for our new external cladding range with a huge number of pre-orders. Now the machine has finally arrived, we’re excited to start sending out the new product. We’re proud to continue to invest in technology which allows us to offer the most innovative and sustainable products to our customers.”
