The Manchester-based AFA Group has launched a new division of the business AFA Productions, with its inaugural film well underway and set to be released later this year (2024).

The company is currently in pre-production for the hard-hitting, crime-based drama Apnas, meaning ‘our own' in Punjabi, casting for both lead and background roles, with filming scheduled to commence shortly after. AFA Productions has collaborated with Ramzan Anwar, Managing Director at G6 Motion Control, as Co-Producers.

The first-to-launch film for AFA Productions is a captivating feature film set in Manchester, exploring the lives of two British Pakistani cousins as they navigate the treacherous waters of the criminal underworld. The film delves into their moral journey, shedding light on the dual existence they lead amidst traditional family expectations and social pressures. From rags to riches, and ultimately facing the spectre of death, ‘Apnas' poses the gripping question: will they make their escape in time and faith?

AFA Productions is calling out to aspiring actors as it announces casting opportunities for sixteen roles, inviting applications from individuals who resonate with characters including British Pakistani or South Asian Heritage males and females aged between 20 and 65, British White males aged between 35 and 45 and British White females aged between 20 and 30.

Apnas is set for theatrical release, with distribution deals currently being negotiated. The production is being co-directed by leading industry professionals Ashley Chin and Darren Gordon. Ashley, a highly-acclaimed actor and film director, began his prolific acting career in 1999 in the BBC film ‘Storm Damage', and has held roles in other major productions including ITV drama ‘The Bill', ‘Holby Blue', ‘The Fixer' and ‘Law & Order: UK'. Eminent Director, Agent and Acting Coach Darren, works with an ever-increasing number of high-profile clients and industry specialists; as an agent, he has supported members of his cohort to secure significant roles in major productions.

Fiaz Ashraf, Founder and CEO of the AFA Group commented:

"The launch of AFA Productions is a landmark move and a very exciting time for the group as we forge ahead with our ambitious expansion plans, while also providing invaluable opportunities for aspiring, and up and coming actors. Experience is nothing without opportunity and ability is nothing without opportunity, and that's why we're seeking out new talent and opening the doors for people's careers."

"Apnas will shine a light on important issues; it is a story based on moral compass, highlighting that while crime may appear to pay in the short-term, it's certainly not going to in the long-term."

Those keen to apply for a role are invited to submit their details and a self-tape in line with the brief via the website by 1 May, 2024. While prior experience is valued, it is not essential for consideration. https://apnas.co.uk/
