Amy Jenkins was crowned the champion of FameLab’s South West England and Wales regional final last week – sponsored by leading European patent and trade mark attorney firm, Haseltine Lake.

Battling against eight other science enthusiasts – all of whom won their local heats earlier this year – Amy gave an outstanding three minute presentation on the importance of scientifically sound Science Communication with a particular focus on her research area - detecting early onset Alzheimer's - which saw her take first place at the regional finals last night. Amy is a student studying Psychology at Swansea University and is currently researching the early identification of Alzheimer's disease, focusing on identifying the characteristics of Subjective Cognitive Decline (SCD).

Delighted to be crowned the winner of FameLab’s South West regional final, Amy Jenkins has previously won the Best Young Researcher, Conference Presentation Award in September 2014 and the Academy of Medical Educator’s Poster Prize.

Amy will now go on to compete in the UK final, against all the nine regional winners, which will be held in London on Monday 25 April 2016.

Part of the annual Cheltenham Science Festival, FameLab UK is the country’s biggest science communication competition. Haseltine Lake continues its support of FameLab UK for the second year with the regional final hosted on Thursday 25 February 2016, compered by Jon Wood.

Commenting on the regional final, Simon Rees, Partner and UK and European Patent Attorney in the Electronics and Communications team at Haseltine Lake, says, “All the finalists gave fantastic performances last night and should be incredibly proud of their commitment to science. At Haseltine Lake, we are passionate about supporting and inspiring young science talent, and we are especially keen to encourage the next generation of scientists and engineers.”
