A specialist medical communications agency based in Berkshire has strengthened its team by adding a chemistry graduate ahead of National Careers Week 2022 – proving there are opportunities outside of the conventional routes into science and medical careers.
Rowley Emery has joined Dice Medical Communications, with his writing talent coming to the surface as he becomes the agency’s latest Account Executive after completing his chemistry degree and developing an interest in healthcare and the pharmaceutical industry.
The appointment is part of the Maidenhead company’s approach to recruitment, with a focus on talent and broadening the job opportunities of science graduates.
Having graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2018, Rowley now has big aspirations of using his new job role to help make a difference and to contribute to the company’s continuous growth.
He said:
“I did my dissertation on bipolar disorder, so I have always been interested in medical and pharmaceuticals. The job has given me a way to use what I have learnt without going anywhere near a lab. “There have been lots of very successful chemists who have gone on to do incredible things. Only a third go into lab work, a third go into teaching and a third go into other roles. I think Margaret Thatcher was a chemist.”
National Careers Week is a celebration of careers guidance and free resources in education across the UK. National Careers Week 2022 will be taking place from Monday, March 7, to Saturday, March 12, and will provide a focus for career guidance activity at an important stage in the academic calendar to help support young people leaving education.
Rowley added:
“Dice Medical Communications ticked all my boxes as the team are all so professional, as well as approachable. The Dice family is passionate about what it does, and the team is willing to provide the best service it can for the people in need. The close-knit nature of the company helps it to thrive and drives the company forward. “They specialise in rare diseases and it is great to know that you are helping people, especially people who may be overlooked.”
As part of its latest recruitment drive, the independent, full-service agency, which was formed in 2011, has also welcome two other employees to the team. Colin Wheeler has joined the company as Medical Director on a part-time basis and Renée Schalks has re-joined the team as Head of Medical Writing.
Matthew Dickinson, Dice’s Managing Director, said:
“Rowley is both enthusiastic and talented and a perfect demonstration of Dice’s recruitment policy, we look for the right people with the right skills, knowledge and potential. We are always on the lookout for new talent as we continue to grow.”
