Regional housebuilder Allison Homes South West and housing association LiveWest have entered into a development agreement to bring 70 affordable new homes to Post Hill, Tiverton in Devon.

This follows the launch of Allison Homes Partnerships last year, which aims to deliver much-needed affordable housing across the South West, building homes for customers with different housing needs across the social rented, affordable rented, and shared ownership tenures.

The new development will be made up of 70, one-, two-, three and four-bedroom properties, all of which will be classed as affordable, and delivered as a mixture of Shared Ownership and Social Rent for local people.

Steve Fowler, Managing Director of Allison Homes South West, commented on the development:

The South West is currently facing a shortfall of affordable housing and so, in partnership with LiveWest, we are proud to be providing these 70 affordable homes for the local people of Tiverton.

“We take pride in designing and building high-quality purpose-built homes with the customer in mind. As standard, all our homes are energy efficient meaning lower monthly bills for our customers. Indeed, the new homes will be built to a minimum Energy Performance rating of B-86.

The contract is part of LiveWest’s plans to provide around 5,000 affordable homes across the South West over the next five years.

Caroline Hughes, Assistant Director of New Business at LiveWest, said

“We are delighted to have partnered with Allison Homes South West to bring 70 affordable new homes to Tiverton. The new homes provide a fantastic opportunity for local people to access great affordable homes.

“The development will also deliver a large area of public open space and a children’s play area and we look forward to seeing the positive impact the development will have on the local community.

“Creating a clean and sustainable future for our customers is a key priority for us and all of these homes will come with air source heat pumps which not only minimises environmental impact, but also provides lower energy bills for our customers.”

Councillor Simon Clist, Housing Portfolio lead at Mid Devon District Council commented

“Through our housing strategy, we are enabling key sites to come forward for new affordable homes including land in our ownership, working in partnership with other providers who share our goal of addressing the shortage of affordable accommodation.”

Head of Housing and Health at Mid Devon District Council, Simon Newcombe added

“Following a market process last year, we are therefore delighted to have sold the site to Allison Homes and LiveWest with full planning permission and look forward to the delivery of the 70 affordable homes for local people.”

The first homes will be available for occupation later in 2025.

Allison Homes South West and LiveWest have previously worked together to deliver affordable housing at developments in Langport, Cotford St. Luke and Churchinford.in Somerset and Bradworthy in Devon.
