The Midas Group, one of the UK's leading independent construction and property services providers, is celebrating 40 years in business with a stream of major projects breaking ground across the South West, South East and Wales.
From modest beginnings in 1976 when former Chairman Len Lewis set up the business from his home in Kingskerwell, South Devon, the firm has grown substantially and now employs over 450 people, with turnover due to pass £250 million and offices across the South of England, including Bristol, Exeter, Southampton and Newport.
The 40 year anniversary comes as Midas continues to build on its strong base in the South West while successfully expanding its operation in Wales and the South East. The Group is preparing to start work on the highly anticipated new John Lewis store in Cheltenham, and is on-site at major projects in Bristol, including the £25 million redevelopment of the former Bristol Post building into student accommodation.
Alan Hope, Chief Executive at The Midas Group who joined the company in 2004, said: “Forty years in business is a genuine milestone for any company and we are all very proud of the work Midas has delivered in that time. The longevity of the business is testament to the company’s commitment to delivering industry-leading performance and customer service, championed by our company Vision.
“Although the business environment has changed over the years, recessions have come and gone and the types of projects we have been asked to deliver have changed, the focus on customer service, partnerships and people has been a constant, and continues to support our growth and our success today.”
In recent years, Midas has achieved enviable customer satisfaction scores of 83 per cent from clients, well above the industry average. Prioritising customer service has led to more than 70 per cent of contracts during 2014/15 arising from repeat clients, and in turn established a strong financial position for the Group.
Steve Hindley CBE, Chairman of Midas Group, led a management buy-out of the company in 1998, and sees innovation and expansion as the key to the firm’s future. He said: “In order to continue to be a major force in the industry for the next 40 years, Midas needs to continue to offer a service which reflects the fast-changing market place that we operate in.
“There are exciting times ahead for the company in terms of new technologies and innovation in building design and performance, both of which we are investing in heavily.
“We continue to expand into new geographical areas, but at the heart of that growth is the commitment to nurture long-term relationships.”
Some of the major projects Midas has delivered in Bristol and Somerset include:
The multi-award winning Filwood Green Business Park, the most environmentally friendly commercial building in the West of England.
The £16.6 million redevelopment of the landmark Twerton Mill site in Bath into student accommodation.
