Work has begun on a new housing development set to bring more than 100 quality new homes, more than half a million pounds worth of investment and a jobs boost to Hereford.

Barratt Homes West Midlands has begun building 110 homes on Hampton Dene Road, work which will underpin around 220 jobs. The new development is to be called Bishop Fields.

As well as building the new homes, which will include affordable housing, Barratt Homes West Midlands is also investing more than £600,000 in the local area, towards education, the road network and off-site open spaces.

Nicola Watton, Sales Manager and Darren Galbraith, Site Manager at Bishop Fields, officially marked the start of work with a sod-cutting ceremony. Bishop Fields is situated on the eastern edge of Hereford and the first homes will be released for sale later this year.

Adrian Farr, Managing Director of Barratt Homes West Midlands said: “We are excited that work is now underway at Bishop Fields in Hereford and are very keen to see it take shape over the next few months.

“As well as providing new homes we are also investing in Hereford and underpinning local jobs. Bishop Fields will offer a superb range of two, three and four bedroom homes, so potential buyers can be confident they will find a home to suit their needs.”

Bishop Fields is an ideal location for first time buyers, young professionals, growing families and downsizers alike, which will include a public open space and a play area for children.

The full breakdown of the £605,460 contributed by Barratt Homes West Midlands towards the local authority as part of the S106 planning agreement for Bishop Fields is as follows:

£277,000 towards local education

£250,000 towards local highways

£68,460 towards off-site recreation

£10,000 towards environmental measures
