Top interior designer, Alison Evans, showroom manager at Obsidian Interiors in Cheltenham, has been recognised by the prestigious Designerati Awards in London, for the third year in a row.

Alison came home from the London-based awards triumphantly bearing the ‘Bathroom Designer of the Year’ award for the second time, this year in the ‘Under £15k’ category. She previously won Luxury designer of the year in 2022.  Colleague Rhyanne Khetia, a kitchen designer at Obsidian, was recognised as a finalist in the ‘New Designer’ category.

Alison’s entry was for an ensuite bathroom in a show-stopping new build home, in an undisclosed Gloucestershire woodland location.

Describing the build Alison said:

“It was a wonderful project to work on and being a new build, went very smoothly. The brief was to create an ensuite bathroom for my clients, that incorporated the natural elements of the woodland surrounding their home. My design had to seamlessly connect the main bedroom, dressing room and ensuite bathroom. The clients requested double basins that I positioned between two full height windows, which created a really dramatic effect. We also installed a free-standing tub, in front of one of the windows, so they can lay in the bath and appreciate the beauty of the nature outside. No bathroom is complete without a shower, but we didn’t want it to be obtrusive, so we used clear glass to build a double-sized walk-in shower. As a cheeky little surprise, I designed hidden doors in the dressing room that led into the en-suite; the view as you opened the secret doors was amazing. Naturally I used a lot of wood in the design, to bring the outside in, along with brushed brass elements and neutral tones.”

Commenting on her award win, Martin Allen-Smith, editor of Designerati, said:

“Being selected as a finalist at our awards is a huge achievement in itself, given the huge number of submissions we receive each year, but for Alison to actually win a trophy two years running is something to be immensely proud of. Our judges were really impressed with her winning design this year – a pure and natural-looking scheme with incredible attention to detail. Congratulations to her and all at Obsidian Interiors.”

Alison said:

“To be honest I am rather overwhelmed to have won again. I do think it is a massive achievement to have been recognised in this way; every time I win it gives me more confidence in my own abilities.  I would also like to hope that I inspire other younger designers, like Rhyanne, that they don’t have to be London-based designer to achieve great things in our industry. With the right clients, vision and team around you, anything is possible.”

Commenting on reaching the finals in the ‘New Designer’ category, Rhyanne said:

“I feel incredibly honoured to be selected as a finalist for this year's awards. This was my first submission to the Designerati Awards, and it has been a memorable experience. Seeing all the wonderful designers who were also up for other awards, has served to motivate and inspire me in so many ways, to become a better and more adventurous designer moving forward.”

Obsidian Interiors are currently refurbishing their entire Fairview Road showroom which will be fully open in January showcasing a mixture of kitchens, bathrooms, interiors and lifestyle areas.
