Five site managers overseeing the construction of David Wilson Homes developments in Leicestershire have received prestigious national awards for the exceptional quality of the homes being built on their sites.

Alex Coltman (52), Adam Davies (36), Ashley Doyle (32), Ben Jones (38) and Jonathan Lindsey (40) and have each won a Pride in the Job award from the National House Building Council (NHBC) – an award known as the ‘Oscars’ of the housebuilding industry.

The annual awards recognise the very best site managers across the country, with over 8,000 being entered into the awards annually. Each is judged on a strict criterion including technical expertise, health and safety, leadership and attention to detail.

The competition is at the heart of raising standards in housebuilding, with the awards showcasing the role site managers play in ensuring much-needed new homes are delivered on time, on safe sites, and to the highest quality standards.

Alex, a Project Manager at Grange View in Hugglescote, lives in Leicester and has dedicated three decades to David Wilson Homes. His exemplary commitment to his role is evident through the numerous accolades he has received from the NHBC, including 16 Pride in the Job awards and three Seal of Excellence awards.

Reflecting on his latest achievement, Alex said:

“Winning this award feels just as good as winning my first. It’s always a big team effort, and I’m proud of those I work alongside.”

For aspiring site managers, Alex offers this advice:

“Be as organised as possible.”

Adam, a Site Manager at New Lubbesthorpe in Leicester, has been with the developer for a decade and resides in Leicestershire. This marks his second Pride in the Job award win.

Expressing his joy, Adam said:

“It feels fantastic to have won my second Pride in the Job award. It was earned through hard work and the great team I have on site.”

He offers this advice to aspiring site managers:

“Always work to consistently improve.”

Ashley, a Site Manager from Derbyshire, works on the Ashlawn Gardens development in Rugby. He joined the developer in August 2007 and has now earned his second Pride in the Job award.

Reflecting on his achievement, Ashley said:

“I feel incredibly proud of myself and my team. All the hard work has paid off.

“I believe we have achieved this award through our consistent approach to all areas of the build and our commitment to maintaining high standards. I always encourage my team to take pride in their work and get the whole team on board.

For aspiring site managers, he offers this advice: “Be passionate about what you do, treat people with respect, speak to people how you expect to be spoken to, and keep pushing forward.”

Site Manager Ben – who has worked at David Wilson Homes for a total of nine years, and has spent six of them developing Wigston Meadowsin Wigston – has secured his third Pride in the Job award.

Ben said:

“I feel ecstatic to have won another Pride in the Job award. It’s all about teamwork and the people who have dedicated themselves to this fantastic site. It’s a win for all of us.”

Jonathan, a Leicestershire native, is the Site Manager at Thorpebury in the Limes in Leicester. Having been with David Wilson Homes for 18 years, he has now secured his second Pride in the Job award.

Jonathan said:

“It's a wonderful feeling for not only me, but also the site management and site team to win for the second year running. Special thanks to Wayne, Dan, Kieran and Ben, without their support this award would not have been possible.

“We achieved this award by always working hard, trying to improve standards daily, and a desire to hand over the best houses to our customers as possible.

When asked for what advice he’d give to aspiring site managers, he said: “Work hard, be consistent, and build every home with the care that you would if it was for you or your family.”

With site managers passing on their skills and industry knowledge to their teams and mentoring assistant site managers, the awards help to drive up quality standards across the industry.

In total, site managers working for David Wilson Homes’ parent company, Barratt Developments, have won 89 Pride in the Job awards this year alone – more than any other housebuilder.

This is the 20th year in a row that Barratt Developments has won the most Pride in the Job awards, having accumulated more than 1,500 individual accolades over the years. This achievement underlines just how important building high quality homes has been to the developer over the last two decades.

John Reddington, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes East Midlands, said:

“We’re so proud of Alex, Adam, Ben, Jonathan and Ashley for achieving a prestigious Pride in the Job Quality award this year. It’s amazing news for the teams at their developments and for our customers.

“To have won more awards than any other housebuilder for 20 years in a row is an incredible achievement, and underlines our commitment to building the very best new homes for our customers.”

Earlier this year, David Wilson Homes also achieved a five-star rating from its customers in the HBF Customer Satisfaction Survey, which recognises both build quality and excellence in customer care. This is the 15th year in a row that the developer’s customers have rated it as a five-star housebuilder, with more than 90% of its customers saying they would recommend it to a friend.
