The Farm Shop & Deli Show has unveiled the regional finalists in its 2024 Retailer Awards, championed by Fieldfare and in partnership with The Grocer – comprising some of the UK's best loved specialist retailers, pillars of their respective communities and champions of great produce and sustainable practice.
The judging process, which took place late last year, saw an esteemed panel of judges come together at Fortnum & Mason, in London, for a day of deliberations and decisions to create their shortlist of category finalists, whittled down from hundreds of entries.
The 74 successful businesses span 11 categories: Baker; Butcher, Cheesemonger; Delicatessen, Farm Shop Large, Farm Shop Small, Fishmonger, Food Hall, Greengrocer, Online Business and Independent local shop/Village store. They cover seven UK regions: Anglia, Midlands, North England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, South England and Wales.
Among those representing Cumbria and the Northwest in the awards are Roast Mutton, Kendal in the Butcher category and Lovingly Artisan Bakery, Plumgarths, Kendal and Altrincham Market, Manchester in the Baker category.
Robert Unwin from Roast Mutton, commented: "It's great that we've been shortlisted in the Farm Shop & Deli Retailer Awards, and the entire team is over the moon, and we want to say a huge thank you to all of our brilliant customers and members of the public who've supported us in our journey over the last couple of years. So I guess it's a case of keeping everything crossed for us and we'll see what happens in April."
Catherine Connor from Lovingly Artisan Baker, said: "It's an honour to be shortlisted alongside the other finalists in this year's Farm Shop & Deli awards in the Baker category. These awards are one of the biggest in the food and drink industry, they give everyone the perfect opportunity to shout about what they do. They also shine a light on the many family run businesses that are at the forefront of the UK's ever growing artisan food and drink industry."
In addition, judges went on to select the Newcomer of the Year finalists. The nine successful new businesses span regions including Anglia, North England, Scotland and South England.
Judge Matt Whelan, MD Fieldfare who championed the Retailer Awards, tells us: "We are delighted to champion the Farm Shop & Deli Show Retailer Awards. What a great experience to be a member of the judging panel! Having the opportunity to see so many fantastic independent retailers, reviewing the many approaches they take to delivering a wonderful experience for their shoppers, was both a pleasure and challenge!"
Regional winners will be selected from the category finalists and, with the ‘Retailer of the Year' accolade, ‘Newcomer of the Year as well as ‘Best in Category' and ‘Best in Region' Awards up for grabs, the winners' announcement on Monday 29th April, 15:15 at Farm Shop & Deli Show, is set to be a fantastic celebration of speciality retailers.
