Waste management specialist broker, Envirovue, has announced the release of its Artificial Intelligence (AI) document-checking tool, which is set to automate and enhance the accuracy of checking Waste Transfer Notes (WTNs), potentially saving businesses tens of thousands of pounds each year.
The aim of the AI-driven tool is to support Envirovue customers in reducing the number of errors and the overall time spent checking WTNs, a legal document that records the transfer of waste from one party to another.
Large businesses are required to check thousands of WTNs per annum which are often incorrect due to human error, missing information or incorrect descriptions. Failing to comply with the request to produce a waste transfer note is a criminal offence and can result in a fixed penalty notice.
The Lancashire-based team at Envirovue has developed an algorithm-backed AI process that will ensure businesses remain compliant by flagging incorrect information, missing detail on the fields required and missing signatures.
The document compliance tool is invaluable in enhancing the accuracy of checking Waste Transfer Notes and streamlining the waste management process, saving businesses both time and money.
Director at Envirovue, Alex Trenbath, explains:
“Organisations managing large amounts of waste are likely to be checking thousands of WTNs per year, risking large fines of up to £5,000 for repeated offences.
“A fixed penalty notice for incorrect or missing information can result in charges of more than £300 per offence. If a company had a thousand WTN and 10 percent were wrong, this could mean a potential liability of £30,000 for the business.
“Our tool uses AI vision technology to scan every WTN and check that all the required fields exist, are correct and that signatures are on the documents where required. The tool then flags any non-conformities to our team and suppliers, saving this data and building reports that are used to inform businesses where things have been missed.
“We have seen exceptional results of 98 percent accuracy, meaning that a human checker isn’t necessary - freeing up teams to focus on business critical tasks.”
At the forefront of waste management innovation, Envirovue is dedicated to developing essential tools for the evolving sector, with a bespoke offering of solutions aimed at streamlining operations, cutting cost and reducing waste and carbon emissions.
Alex adds:
“Our approach to AI isn't to replace people, but instead to empower them, saving time on tasks and enabling them to focus on building stronger relationships and driving meaningful improvements.
“AI, while powerful, is just one of many tools we use to solve real-world problems. We work to address the industry challenges and create solutions to overcome them, in this instance by ensuring compliance. By focusing on outcomes rather than just the technology, we provide real, measurable value to our clients.”
