Gloucestershire based network solutions company, Gbics, are raising a glass to their first apprentice Alex Hudson, who has now been with them for one year, coinciding with National Apprenticeship Week.

The now, 18-year-old, joined the fibre optics company that are specialists in integrated in bespoke networking solutions, in 2024, and is a great example of this year’s National Apprenticeship Week, theme, ‘Skills for Life'. This is aimed to unite organisations and individuals in celebrating the immense value, benefits, and opportunities that apprenticeships bring. Alex has gone from a Warehouse course to looking at sales and marketing at the Cirencester company.

Sales and marketing apprenticeships is something that Gbics director, James Burgess, is looking into in 2025, with potential new opportunities within the business.

“National Apprenticeship Week, which runs from Monday 10 February to Sunday 16 February, aims to raise awareness of the many benefits apprenticeships can offer you. For us, it is a great chance to explore our options and network and current employment levels,”

James said.

Gbics engaged with Cirencester’s,
The Apprenticeship Partner, which was established by Hannah Hockley, who has worked with and has experience of apprenticeship development and training through Cirencester College, The Apprenticeship Management Group as well as Cirencester Chamber of Commerce.

“Alex has been a revelation, keen to learn and has even taught us all a few things. I would now be looking for apprentices to develop our current partnerships in the private and public sector as well as global growth.”

Alex, now 18, said of his course in 2024,

I really did not enjoy college, and I thought an apprenticeship is a really good solution because I get to work like a full-time job and also learn about the position, potential opportunities, and get a qualification at the end of it.

“I would recommend doing an apprenticeship to people as it is a really good jump start into your future and especially if you do something you like and want to pursue. I would recommend this route.”
