Applying for the DVS Grace Period: An Extension

Business Insights
23/10/2024

The grace period for the Direct Vision Standard (DVS) is now available for fleet operators who need additional time to comply with the new regulations. However, this extension is not automatic—you must apply for it, and this applies to each individual vehicle in your fleet. To help clear up any confusion as we approach the deadline, we’ve created this guide to walk you through the process.

Step 1: Check Your Star Rating

To begin, you need to check your vehicle’s star rating, which you can obtain directly from the manufacturer. If your vehicle has a zero, one, or two-star rating, it will require the Progressive Safe System to be fitted in order to comply with the new DVS rules. It’s important to note that this equipment won’t change the star rating of your vehicle, but it will enhance the driver's visibility and ensure compliance with the new safety requirements.

Step 2: Book Your Installation

To apply for the grace period extension, you must first book the installation of the Progressive Safe System.

Step 3: Apply for Your Extension

Once you’ve booked your installation and received confirmation of both the equipment and installation date, you can proceed to apply for the DVS grace period extension. To do this, you will need a London Road User Charging account.

What is a London Road User Charging Account?

A London Road User Charging Account is an online platform that allows you to manage payments for driving in London's Congestion Charge zone, as well as Low Emission Zones (LEZ) and Ultra Low Emission Zones (ULEZ). You will need this account to submit your DVS grace period extension application.

Important: You must apply separately for each vehicle that you want to receive a grace period for.
